Acute Back Pain Treatment at Laser Spine Institute
If you are suffering with acute back pain, you likely want treatment that is not only safe and effective, but also fast-acting. That’s where Laser Spine Institute (LSI) comes in. We offer treatment that often has patients back to their normal activities more quickly than traditional open-back surgery. Additionally, more than 85% of our patients report and increased quality of life within three months of their procedure, and some of our patients even report relief the same day. Our procedures are also gentle on the body, meaning there’s less risk for complications like infection and excess scar tissue formation. This reduces the chance of a long painful recovery, as well as future acute back pain. LSI is able to accomplish these advantages by using endoscopic techniques.
Here’s how a typical procedure for acute back pain unfolds at LSI:
- The patient is given an IV sedative and the portion of the neck or back to be operated on is numbed. During a traditional surgery, general anesthesia would be used.
- With the patient lying on his or her stomach, the LSI surgeon makes a small incision—about 1 centimeter long—in the skin. In traditional surgeries, a large incision through skin and muscle is made.
- The LSI surgeon inserts a series of nesting tubes into the incision that gently push muscle and other tissue aside so the surgical site can be accessed through the largest tube. The other tubes are removed. Traditional surgeries require that muscle and other tissue be pulled back to expose the spinal column.
- At LSI, small tools, including a light and camera, are fed down the tube and the procedure is conducted. Traditional surgery uses larger instruments.
- After about an hour or less, the LSI surgeon is done. The tools and tube are removed and if needed, the incision is closed with one or two stitches. Conversely, traditional surgery can take several hours, and there are many stitches needed to fully close a traditional surgery site.
This is the basic plan followed for procedures treating sciatica, bone spurs, ruptured discs, stenosis, and more, but treatment is individualized to meet each patient’s needs.
